“Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.” — Joshua 14:12 (NIV)

Most people at 85 are slowing down, but Caleb was just getting started. After decades of wandering, waiting, and fighting, he stood before Joshua and declared, “Give me the mountain with the giants on it.”

What makes this moment remarkable is not just his age—it’s his attitude. Caleb had been waiting for this promise for 45 years. While others grew weary, settled for less, or gave up hope, his faith only grew stronger. He saw age not as a limitation, but as living proof of God’s faithfulness.

Caleb reminds us that years of waiting are not wasted—they are training years. They are seasons in which God strengthens our faith, deepens our roots, and equips us to claim His promises. No matter how long the journey, God’s timing is perfect, and His power is sufficient to help us conquer the giants in our lives.

“Faith that endures the waiting is faith that conquers the mountain.”

A farmer planted apple trees, knowing they wouldn’t bear fruit for many years. Neighbors laughed, saying he was too old to enjoy the harvest. Yet he persisted. Decades later, the trees finally produced fruit, and he was alive to taste the first ripe apple. Like Caleb, he didn’t let time steal his hope—his patience became his reward.

  1. Faith doesn’t retire; God’s promises don’t expire.
  2. Waiting strengthens us, preparing us for the battles and blessings ahead.
  3. Courage at the finish line requires the same boldness as at the starting point.
  4. Age, delay, or obstacles cannot limit God’s ability to fulfill His promises.

What “mountain” in your life have you been tempted to give up on because it feels too delayed, too difficult, or out of reach?

Don’t stop believing just because the wait has been long or the challenge seems too great. Today, ask God for fresh courage. Like Caleb, boldly declare: “Lord, give me this mountain.” Let every year of waiting strengthen your faith, rather than diminish it. Step forward with confidence, knowing God’s power goes before you.

Caleb’s story proves a powerful truth: it’s never too late to believe, it’s never too late to take action, and it’s never too late to trust God’s promises. Giants may seem intimidating, and mountains may feel steep, but with God’s help, you are fully equipped to conquer and inherit the blessings He has promised.
