“And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” — Esther 4:14 (NIV)

Esther’s story picks up where Vashti’s leaves off. Chosen as queen, she could have lived quietly, enjoying palace comforts, far removed from the struggles of her people. But when Haman plotted to destroy the Jews, Esther faced a choice: remain silent and safe—or risk everything to intervene.

Her uncle Mordecai’s words rang in her ears: “Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” With courage, Esther said yes—yes to risk, yes to fear, yes to God’s purpose. That single act of obedience cost her comfort, yet it saved a nation.

Faithfulness comes in different forms. Sometimes it looks like a firm “no,” as Vashti modeled. Other times it looks like a bold “yes,” as Esther showed. Either way, God uses our choices to advance His purposes.

“Courageous faith says yes to God, even when fear says no.”

Think of Mary, chosen to bear the Messiah. She could have said no, hesitated, or run from the responsibility. Instead, she responded with trust: “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.” Like Esther, Mary’s “yes” became the gateway for God’s extraordinary plan.

What “yes” is God asking of you right now—one that feels risky, stretching, or even scary?

  1. God positions us with purpose, not by accident.
  2. Saying “yes” to God often requires courage.
  3. Our obedience can become the turning point in someone else’s life.

Take a moment to reflect: where might God be nudging you to step forward in obedience? It could be speaking up, helping someone, or stepping into a new responsibility. Pray for courage, and then take one practical step of “yes” this week.

Lord, give me Esther’s courage to say yes when You call. Help me to trust Your purpose above my fear. Use my obedience, however small, to bless others and further Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Esther’s “yes” shows us that courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s acting faithfully despite it. Your yes today might be the very thing that changes the course of someone’s life.
