“He was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years. His mother’s name was Jekoliah; she was from Jerusalem. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father Amaziah had done.” — 2 Chronicles 26:3–4
At just sixteen, Uzziah became king of Judah. Imagine stepping into leadership when most teenagers are still trying to figure out who they are. It wasn’t his résumé, his experience, or his qualifications that mattered—it was the call of God on his life.
We often disqualify ourselves by saying we’re too young, too inexperienced, or too unprepared. But God has always delighted in calling people who feel “not enough.” Why? Because the mission rests on His strength, not ours.
True calling is never about your age, status, or achievements—it’s about God’s choice and His power to shape you into who you are meant to be.
“God doesn’t wait for you to be old enough, strong enough, or experienced enough—He chooses you as you are, to grow you into who you’re meant to be.”
A teenager nervously walked onto a basketball court filled with older, stronger players. His first few dribbles were shaky, and the crowd wasn’t impressed. But then his coach leaned in and whispered, “You belong here—play your game.” With that encouragement, the boy found his rhythm. He didn’t need to imitate anyone else—he just needed to step into the role given to him.
That’s what Uzziah did. He accepted a role far bigger than himself, but with God’s help, he grew into it.
- God calls people who feel unprepared.
- His strength makes up for what we lack.
- Your “yes” is more important than your résumé.
Where in your life do you feel “too young,” “too small,” or “not enough”—and could it be the very place God wants to show His strength?
Say “yes” to the next small thing God is asking of you. Don’t wait until you feel fully ready. Step forward in faith, trusting that God will equip and grow you along the way.
Lord, thank You for choosing me even when I feel unqualified. Help me to rely on Your strength instead of my weakness. Give me courage to say yes to the opportunities and callings You place before me, knowing that You will carry me through. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Uzziah’s crown reminds us: when God calls, He also equips. If He chose you, He’ll carry you. Your willingness to step forward matters far more than your readiness.
